This comic book adaptation tells the ancient story of 300 Spartans facing the vast Persian army at Thermopylae. To save the Greek culture from enslavement and servitude to Persian king Xerxes, King Leonides leads the Spartans to glory and death. Their sacrifice and honor propels all of Greece to stand against the oppression of the Persians. The MPAA rates this film R for violence, sexuality and nudity. The ancient warfare featured in this film highlights the effectiveness and savagery of the sword and spear. Edged weapons are used to stab, slash and dismember. Blood, severed body parts, and bodies fly across the screen. Armored animals are used to stomp and impale victims. Grotesque, deformed people are used to terrify and attack the Spartans. A scene shows the skeletal remains of hundreds of babies who were discarded by the Spartans for physical imperfection. There is a protracted sex scene between a husband and wife. A young woman (referred to as an adolescent), nude but for a shear drape, performs a flailing dance under the influence of the vapors from a flame. There are references to the young woman, called an oracle, being a sex slave for a cadre of mystics. A woman is raped on screen. Womens bare breasts are shown. A man is shown nude from behind. Some profanity is used in the film.
