MovieDescription: 101 DALMATIANS
STARRING: GLENN CLOSE, JEFF DANIELS, JOELY RICHARDSON, JOAN PLOWRIGHT. DIRECTED BY: MICHAEL KAMEN.
In this comedy-drama, Cruella De Vil, a fur loving owner of a fashion house decides to make a garment out of the skins of Dalmatian puppies. Yikes! So, just how scary is Cruella, you ask. She's pretty scary however, in the audience I was in that was filled with children of all ages, I did not hear any crying or whimpering when Cruella was on screen. If you have an especially sensitive child this may not be the case. A warning may be advisable and, if necessary, decide ahead of time what to do to feel safe if things get too frightening. In the end, Cruella gets her due in a series of funny incidents that all will surely enjoy. The somewhat goofy bad guys run into a series of bad luck mostly due to their own stupidity. While in pursuit of the puppies their car bursts into flames and engulfs the passenger compartment in one comical sequence. In two other separate incidents, they encounter an electrical fence and an icy pond with predictable results. A taxidermist is portrayed as a vicious person and is briefly scary. Animals of every variety are given way too much credit for human like intelligence. Be prepared to enjoy this aspect just for its fantasy. If you like to inject a little realism into your child's life, keep an eye out for various romanticized plot lines in this story that may inspire a dialogue with your children. Before the main feature film, an award winning Mickey Mouse cartoon in which Mickey's brain is temporarily exchanged with a monsters brain is shown. Mickey becomes vicious and so scary looking it set the little girl in front of me to crying. I'm not sure if this cartoon will be shown with your movie; but a pre-movie warning, if you have a sensitive child, may also be in order here.
