MovieDescription: THE BOX Cast: Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, Frank Langella, James Rebhorn, and Holmes Osborne. Directed by Richard Kelly. Set in the mid-1970s during the time of the Viking probes to the planet Mars, a NASA scientist and his wife and son are embroiled in a sinister test. A man with a disfigured face delivers a box with a large red button. They are told that pushing the button will bring them one million dollars and cause someone unknown to them to die. The MPAA rates the film PG-13 for thematic elements, violence and disturbing images. A man with healed facial burns is horribly disfigured. A womans disfigured foot is shown with missing toes. People frequently have nose bleeds. A man shoots his wife in the chest with a pistol at close range. Children are kidnapped and threatened with death. People are tested to determine their altruism toward their fellow man. A supernatural being inhabits the body of a human. The being behaves in a god-like fashion, being able to injure and kill and then heal or resurrect. Government officials are shown fearful and powerless in the face of the supernatural being. Some mild to moderate language and profanity are heard in the film. Alcohol and tobacco are used on screen.
