MovieRating: PG-13

MovieType: New Release

MovieDescription: THE LOVELY BONES Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Stanley Tucci, Susan Sarandon. Directed by Peter Jackson. In this drama based on the bestselling book, a young girl is murdered by a neighborhood child predator/serial killer. Her assumed death and the hunt for her remains and the killer tears apart her family and changes the lives of all who knew her. The MPAA has rated this film PG-13 for mature thematic material and language. The film is about the stalking and murder, and presumed rape, of a fourteen-year-old girl by a child predator. While her murder is not depicted on screen, it is obvious that it is imminent to both the audience and the girl herself. A grisly scene is portrayed after her murder. The killer is soaking in a bathtub covered in grime and blood. No nudity is shown. A bloody knife, the murder weapon, is cleaned in a sink that also contains the girls charm bracelet, which the killer has kept as a souvenir. The killer drags what apparently is the girls dead body in one scene in a bag that is leaking blood and stores it in a safe in his basement for many years. In one frightening scene a girl, although already dead, appears to be drowning in water and then floats down to a watery grave. Other scenes of violence include a man being beaten nearly to death with fists and a baseball bat. In another scene a man slips off a steep cliff and graphically falls to his death, hitting the rocks roughly all along his descent. Adults smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol, sometimes to excess.
