In this action film set in the future, interactive gaming meets reality television with high stakes, and individuals are implanted with technology that changes their brains to surrender control of their body to a gamer. In one TV show, prison inmates, controlled by professional gamers, fight with real weapons in a battle for their lives and ultimate freedom. The MPAA rates this film R for violence, sexual content, nudity and language. Strong profanity and verbal sexual references are used. Numerous scenes of graphic, gory violence dominate the film. Massive machinegun fire kills and injures multiple victims at close range and in bloody fashion. Corpses and disfiguring wounds are portrayed. In one scene a person beats another viciously with a rock in the face. A person is killed when hit by a speeding vehicle. Explosions and gunfire leave many without limbs or body parts. People are set on fire. One character is portrayed with half of his face. In another scene a man viciously rips through his own flesh to remove an implanted computer chip. Hand-to-hand is used. Knives, guns, clubs and machineguns are used as weapons. Strong sexual imagery also pervades the film, including graphic pornography, homosexual and sadistic sexual activities. Nudity includes characters bare breasts and backsides. Teenage girls speak sexually and aggressively and bare their naked bodies. Substance use includes a character drinking an entire bottle of alcohol and then appearing intoxicated.
