MovieTitle: THE BOOK OF ELI
MovieRating: R
MovieType: New Release
MovieDescription: THE BOOK OF ELI Cast: Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stephenson, Jennifer Beals. Directed by Albert Hughes and Allen Hughes. This action film is set in a post-apocalyptic America, thirty years after the catastrophic war that turned the world into a scorched wasteland. Survival is the driving force for lawless gangs and their weaker victims. Eli, a solitary man, who seems different from the others, has been journeying westward since the end of the war, carrying a sacred book that holds the key to survival for all of mankind. The MPAA has rated this film R for violence and language. Strong language including sexual innuendo and profanity punctuate many scenes. Most people will murder for the most basic necessities, like water and clothing, or for no reason at all. Violence includes hand-to-hand combat, and the use of a wide range of military weapons including rocket launchers and grenades. Women are portrayed as prostituting themselves in various ways and all women, as the physically weaker sex, are subjected to rule by unkind male benefactors, experiencing physical, verbal and sexual abuse. Two scenes show violent acts of attempted rape. This film contains no nudity. Illiteracy is used to control the masses. Because of the scarcity of food, many people resort to cannibalism, which is discussed in the dialogue but not seen by viewers. Eli has in his possession a very special book that he reads each day, and he attempts to live by its principles. His nemesis, Carnegie, is the self-proclaimed despotic leader of a small town of thieves and prostitutes. He is searching for the book Eli is protecting because he wants to use its power to control others.
