MovieDescription: SHUTTER ISLAND Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow. Directed by Martin Scorsese. In this post-World War II thriller, two U.S. Marshals are summoned to a remote island off the eastern U.S. coast to investigate the disappearance of an inmate from a high-security prison hospital for the criminally insane. Rumors of experimentation on humans contribute to the fear that the government may be using the facility for covert military operations. The MPAA has rated this film R for violent content, language and nudity. Strong language, profanity and coarse slang terms are used throughout this film. Characters smoke cigarettes. The main character is addicted to alcohol, using it to dull horrific memories including combat experiences. Patients at the facility are the most dangerous of criminals. Their dialogue often centers around their violent histories and their graphic conversations about the people they murdered, including a mother drowning her three children, a woman killing her philandering husband with an ax, and a man who burns down an apartment building with people inside. The warden espouses that God loves and approves of violent behavior. The main character has flashbacks and hallucinations that include his deceased wife who died in a fire, her body partially burned and disintegrating into ashes. Other hallucinations include swarms of rats, bodies oozing and dripping blood, and scenes from a German prison camp with piles of bodies of men, women and children stacked up like firewood. A patient scrapes his arm and uses his blood to write on the wall.
